چکیده

This paper presents the microscopic characterization of two types of fly ash belite cements and their hydration products by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) microanalysis and X-ray diffraction analysis. The cements were obtained from ASTM class C coal fly ash by the hydrothermal-calcination route in water (FABC-2-W) and NaOH 1M solution (FABC-2-N). The hydration was studied during a period of 180 days at 21oC and >95% rh. The results showed important incorporation of Al in the C-S-H gel and other minor elements, with presumable composition close to that of aluminium-tobermorite. The C-S-H composition of the FABC-2-W is more stable over the hydration time than that of the FABC-2-N cement. Portlandite is scantly formed during hydration.

Synthesis and Characterization of High Belite Sulfoaluminate Cement through Rich Alumina Fly Ash and Desulfurization Gypsum

The objective of this study was the preparation and characterization of high belite sulfoaluminate cement (HBSC) from industrial residues. HBSC promises eco-friendly building materials with great mechanical performance at earlier ages than Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). Preliminary results show the formation of main phase dicalcium silicate (C2S) and ye’elimite (C4A3$) at 1250°C, as determined...

Characterization of CFB-Coal Fly Ash Zeolitic Materials and Their Potential Use in Wastewater Treatment

Two different fly ash (FA) samples were tested for their ability to give synthetic zeolitic products. Polish bituminous (PB) and South African (SA) coal fly ash (FA) samples, derived from pilot-scale circulated fluidized bed (CFB) combustion facilities, have been utilized as raw materials. The two FAs underwent a hydrothermal activation with 1M NaOH solution at 90°C for 24 h. Two different FA/N...

Efficiency of fly ash belite cement and zeolite matrices for immobilizing cesium.

The efficiency of innovative matrices for immobilizing cesium is presented in this work. The matrix formulation included the use of fly ash belite cement (FABC-2-W) and gismondine-type Na-P1 zeolite, both of which are synthesized from fly ash of coal combustion. The efficiency for immobilizing cesium is evaluated from the leaching test ANSI/ANS 16.1-1986 at the temperature of 40 degrees C, from...

Center for By-Products Utilization PROPERTIES OF CONCRETE PRODUCED FROM MULTI-COMPONENT BLENDED CEMENTS

This paper presents a study on the behavior of concrete produced from multi-component blended cements. These blends were prepared by blending 20 percent to 60 percent ASTM Type I cement with the combination of Class C fly ash and clean coal ash. Two percent to four percent sodium sulfate anhydrite was added to the blends as a chemical activator. Tests were conducted on the prepared concrete for...
